Imagine if you could turn every drive into an adventure. The 2022 Toyota Sequoia promises exactly that as Toyota’s largest, three-row SUV that offers seating for up to eight and plenty of power whether your adventure takes you down the highway, through the city, or off the beaten path. The Sequoia is there for you and your family, mile after mile.

Built with versatility in mind, the Sequoia first made its debut in the Toyota lineup in 2001. The full-size SUV was an immediate success for Toyota and gave families an alternative to the minivan with its available seating for eight. The fact that it was also more stylish and sophisticated, boasted a suite of comfort and convenience features, and proved even a full-size SUV could be fun to drive were other major selling points.

Fast forward two decades, and the Sequoia remains a staple in the Toyota fleet. The 2022 Sequoia continues to impress with its six-trim lineup that offers a progressive range of features and luxuries as well as price points for a wide spectrum of budgets. The Sequoia’s proven V8 engine also delivers plenty of power and capability, which makes the Sequoia easy to handle and gives drivers the freedom to turn every drive into an adventure.

The 2022 Sequoia has plenty to offer across its six-trim lineup that starts with the SR5 at $50,500.* The SR5 is anything but basic and comes equipped with Toyota’s Safety Sense P driver-assist suite, smartphone integration, automatic LED headlights, integrated LED fog lights, automatic three-zone climate control, and a 7-inch touchscreen display. The TRD Sport builds on the SR5 and prepares the Sequoia for light off-roading with its TRD sport-tuned suspension with Bilstein shocks and 20-inch TRD Sport wheels. The black satin logos and chrome front grille with the black insert and accent further distinguish the trim.

    The Limited and Nightshade

The Limited is focused on luxury, and that starts with heated, power-adjustable, leather-trimmed front seats. The Limited makes it convenient to access the rear cargo area with its power liftgate and upgrades the standard audio system to a premium system with navigation. The Nightshade Special Edition builds on the luxury of the Limited but adds its own twist, putting the Sequoia in stealth mode. The Nightshade adds second-row captain’s chairs, black door handles, black badging, and integrated LED fog lights with a dark chrome surround. These black and dark accents give the Nightshade its name and distinct aesthetic.

    The Platinum and TRD Pro

The Platinum sets a new benchmark for luxury with perforated leather front seats that are heated and ventilated. The trim also upgrades the audio system to a JBL premium system with navigation that delivers an immersive listening experience whether you’re streaming your favorite music or listening to navigation cues. The last in the lineup is the TRD Pro, which is the ultimate in rugged capability and sophistication. The TRD Pro is instantly recognizable by its front grille, color-keyed grille surround, black TRD roof rack, running boards, and 18-inch TRD Pro wheels. It also features Rigid Industries LED fog lights and trim-exclusive TRD Pro front and rear FOX shocks that ready it for the trail.

  • Performance

A silver 2022 Toyota Sequoia SR5 is shown from the front driving away from mountains.

Since its debut, the Sequoia has been built on the same chassis as Toyota’s full-size pickup truck, and that’s no different for the 2022 model. Why change a good thing? Over the years, however, Toyota has made improvements to the Sequoia’s suspension to deliver better handling and performance. These improvements are apparent on the 2022 Sequoia Platinum, which features a rear pneumatic cylinder height-controlled suspension and an Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) system. The pneumatic suspension allows you to adjust the height of the Sequoia based on your load, while the AVS, which is driver-selectable between Normal and Sport, adjusts the dampening of the shocks for better performance.

    Off-Road Driving

The 2022 Sequoia comes standard with an Automatic Limited-Slip Differential, which makes every Sequoia in the lineup capable performers in harsh weather conditions and across a wide variety of terrain. How does it work? The automatic limited-slip differential uses the brakes to mitigate wheel slippage or spin. This means more traction when you need it the most, whether you’re traveling in rain, sleet, snow, sand, or mud.

The limited-slip differential plays a vital role in trims like the TRD Pro, which is designed to venture even further off the trail. The TRD Pro is equipped with high-performance TRD-tuned FOX performance shocks and TRD-tuned springs that carry the full-size SUV over even the bumpiest terrain. This type of terrain can pose a threat to the SUV’s underbody, but Toyota mitigates this risk with protective skid plates that shield the Sequoia’s vital components from rocks and other debris.

    A Reliable V8

Aside from the Sequoia’s handling and performance, what about its capability and power? Toyota equips the 2022 Sequoia with its tried and true 5.7-liter V8 engine that’s mated with a 6-speed automatic transmission. This combination delivers 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque with a 7,400-pound towing capability. This means even more possibilities for adventure since you can easily haul your boat, trailer, jet skis, camper, or even another vehicle behind the stunning SUV.

  • Technology

Toyota often leads the industry in technology, and that’s no different when you look at the 2022 Sequoia. The Sequoia’s technology extends from its suite of connectivity tools to the Toyota Safety Sense P bundle of active and passive driver-assist features. All of these tools are designed to keep you connected, minimize the potential for collision, and give you confidence when you’re behind the wheel.

    Modern Infotainment

Every Sequoia in the 2022 lineup is equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen display, but the real technology is what that display has to offer. Through the display, you’ll have access to your smartphone and apps via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Amazon Alexa serves as your assistant when you’re on the road and can play your favorite music, stream a new podcast, check the weather, navigate your route, control your smart-home devices, add items to your shopping list, and so much more with a simple voice command.

The Sequoia’s connectivity features extend even further with Toyota’s Connected Services. This suite of available services gives you added peace of mind and convenience. The suite can turn your Sequoia into a traveling office thanks to the available 4G Wi-Fi hotspot. Through the app, you’ll also have access to Destination Assist that puts you in contact with a live agent who can help you navigate to your next destination. You can remotely start, lock and unlock the doors, and locate the Sequoia through the Connected Services app or receive personalized maintenance reminders through the Service Connect feature. For greater peace of mind, you can activate the Safety Connect Emergency SOS assistance tool and 24/7 roadside assistance.

    Standard Safety Features

Beyond keeping you connected, the Sequoia also actively works to keep you safe via the Toyota Safety Sense P suite. The suite is standard on every trim and includes Toyota’s Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert, and Automatic High Beams. The Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection actively monitors in front of the SUV for potential collision, while Lane Departure Alert monitors the Sequoia’s position on the road. Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is an enhanced version of cruise control that actively monitors the flow and distance of traffic ahead to adjust the Sequoia’s speed as needed. Together, these tools minimize the risk for collision by enhancing your view and alerting you to potential harm.
