Although minivans may have gone somewhat out of style the last few decades – replaced in many driveways by SUVs – they still offer an excellent option for anyone who needs a lot of functional space for passengers and cargo. A minivan is a great choice for a large or growing family or for anyone that appreciates the ability to fully utilize the interior of a vehicle. With the 2021 Toyota Sienna, you have an amazing option with a stylish design, efficient hybrid performance, and impressive interior options.

Just one look at the Sienna shows you how far this incredible model is removed from the minivans of the 70s, 80s, and 90s – this is a modern vehicle through and through. The exterior is gorgeous and has a bold style that you would expect from an SUV, clearly marking this as a new development in minivan design. Since models like the Sienna are popular for families, one of the biggest concerns that someone looking at a minivan can have is fuel economy. That is why the 2021 Toyota Sienna is a hybrid vehicle, offering amazing fuel efficiency that will help save you money while giving you seating for up to eight people.

With five different trims available, you can get exactly the level of sophistication and remarkable technology you need inside the Sienna. An impressive 9-inch touchscreen infotainment display is standard in every trim, while an available 12-speaker JBL sound system offers an experience that you likely never thought possible inside a minivan. And with ten airbags, a blind spot monitor, and the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 package all standard, the Sienna is also an incredibly safe vehicle. When you are looking at a minivan like the 2021 Toyota Sienna, you are probably not looking for incredible performance. While you may want a vehicle that is fun to drive, more practical concerns are often at the forefront with something like the Sienna. That is why it is so impressive that the Sienna has a hybrid engine – not simply as an available option, but as the standard engine on every single trim.

    Powertrain

The engine in the Sienna is a 2.5L double overhead cam that can deliver a net 245 hp for excellent performance that is fun to drive. While the starting trim features a pair of front motors as part of the hybrid system, higher trims have two motors in the front as well as another motor in the rear of the vehicle for boosted performance. Front-wheel drive is standard, with electronic on-demand all-wheel drive on higher trims, and all models come with an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission.

    Efficiency

Since it has a hybrid engine, the 2021 Toyota Sienna offers much better fuel economy than you would expect from such a large vehicle. The standard versions with front-wheel drive can get an estimated 36 MPG in the city, on the highway, and combined. However, if you prefer an all-wheel drive vehicle, you can expect an estimated 35 MPGin the city, 36 MPG on the highway, and 35 MPG combined. As you can see, that is almost no difference; so no matter which model you choose, you will get fantastic fuel efficiency.

  • Interior

The brown interior and infotainment screen is shown on a 2021 Toyota Sienna.

Whether you are more interested in passenger space, cargo volume, or utilizing both, the 2021 Toyota Sienna is a fantastic choice with a spacious interior. In terms of passenger room, the Sienna comes standard with seating for eight passengers, including a pair of seats up front and two rows of three-person bench seating in the back. One trim, the XLE, lets you choose seating for either seven or eight people, while higher trims feature seven-passenger seating for ultimate comfort and luxury. If you choose a model with seating for seven, then the second row features a pair of captain’s chairs rather than a bench.

    Cargo Space

In terms of cargo volume, you get a massive amount of space inside the Sienna, no matter what trim or configuration you choose. Even when full of passengers, the Sienna has more than 33 cu. ft. of cargo area behind the third row of seats. With the third-row down, you get more than 75 cu. ft. of space behind the second row, and with the second row of seats down, you get 101 cu. ft. of total cargo volume inside the Sienna.

As you can see, that is a tremendous amount of room inside for passengers, cargo, or both – and the Sienna makes it easy to load up with everything you need to take with you. Plus, if you choose the towing prep package, then the Sienna offers up to 3,500 lbs of towing capacity. So if you need to pull a small trailer behind you, then this is a fantastic option.

  • Technology and Safety

A dark grey 2021 Toyota Sienna is shown from the side parked on a city street.

One of the things we really love about the 2021 Toyota Sienna is the impressive amount of technology that has been packed into it. Even the starting trim, the LE, comes standard with a 9-inch infotainment display, a 6-speaker sound system, and seven USB ports. This is a much larger screen than you typically see on starting trims of even more expensive models, and it really showcases Toyota’s commitment to offering great tech for everyone. The standard trim also has three-zone automatic climate control to keep everyone comfortable, an eight-way power driver’s seat, and a steering wheel with mounted audio and phone controls.

    Tech Options

While a more impressive 8-speaker sound system is standard on some higher trims, if you go to the highest trim, the Platinum, you get a 12-speaker JBL sound system with a subwoofer and amplifier. The Platinum trim also features four-zone automatic climate control, as well as a bird’s eye view camera that provides you with a clearer view of the entire area around your vehicle, plus a wireless charging pad. You also get leather-trimmed heated and ventilated front seats, with a leather-trimmed, heated steering wheel that includes memory settings.

    Other Features

A 4-inch color multi-information driver display is standard, with a 7-inch driver display available, and a Smart Key System with push-button start and remote illuminated entry are also available. We have not even mentioned the available 10-inch color head-up display, auto-dimming rearview mirror, or hands-free power sliding doors and liftgate, all of which make enjoying the Sienna that much easier.

    Safety Features

Toyota models are well known for their safety features, and the 2021 Sienna is certainly no exception. While there are a few features offered as available options, the vast majority of the Sienna’s safety features are standard on every trim. So no matter what you are looking for, the Sienna is going to help protect you and your loved ones on the road.

    Safety Sense 2.0

Every model of the Sienna comes with the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 package of safety features. These include a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, a lane departure alert with steering assist, and a lane tracing assist system. This safety package also includes automatic high beams for improved night visibility, a full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control system, and road sign assist. Aside from this safety package, every trim of the 2021 Toyota Sienna also includes ten airbags and enhanced vehicle stability control with traction control.

    Built For Safety

Other standard safety features on the Sienna include child-protected rear door locks, a tire pressure monitor system, and an automatic collision notification system with roadside assistance. The Sienna also comes with a blind spot monitor and a rear cross-traffic alert, plus a hill start assist control system, all standard. Front and rear parking assist with automatic braking are among the few safety features that are not standard, but even they come on all of the higher trims of the Sienna. Overall, you can see that the standard safety features are among the best in the industry and ensure that every model of the Sienna is incredibly secure.
