  • Overview

As one of the most popular full-size luxury SUVs in the country, the new 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser does not disappoint. Completely redesigned with a brand new edition, you’ll be hard-pressed to find something you don’t love about this model. The last full redesign took place back in 2008, and a few tweaks were made again in 2016. So, it’s safe to say that this off-roading legend was due for an overhaul.

While the technology and safety systems have all been upgraded for this new production run, the 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser will keep its iconic style. This includes a boxy silhouette, squared headlights, prominent air intakes, and a more distinctive grille.

With three rows of seating, this family-friendly model can carry up to eight people with 16.1 cubic feet of storage space behind the third row. If you need a bit more room, you can fold the last row down to expand the cargo area to 41.4 cubic feet. To gain access to the maximum cargo area, simply fold down the second row of seating as well for up to 82.8 cubic feet.

    The Engine

As a full-size SUV, you can expect to experience some serious power when you’re behind the wheel. Rumbling under the hood of every new 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser is a robust 5.7-liter V8 engine that has been coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Pumping out 381 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque, it uses 4WD to provide the ultimate experience on the streets and off-road.

    The Fuel Economy

Since the engine is so powerful, the fuel economy is a bit lower than we’d like. It gets about 14 MPG combined (13 city/17 highway). However, it also has a maximum towing limit set at 8,100 pounds. That’s enough to haul a trailer with ATVs or jet skis. It’s even enough to pull a camper or a boat. With the 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser, you won’t have to leave anything behind for your next family camping trip!

  • Safety

A white 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser is going around a corner on a narrow, rocky ledge.

As we touched on briefly before, there are two versions of the new 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser. First is the regular Land Cruiser, and the other is the Heritage Edition. Whichever model you choose, they will both come with a slew of safety features to protect you and your loved ones on the road.

    The Toyota Safety Sense

First, every new Land Cruiser comes standard with the Toyota Safety Sense package. This suite includes several advanced safety systems. Automatic high beams provide enhanced visibility at night, and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control will allow you to keep with the flow of traffic. It works using sensors that detect the pace at which the vehicle in front of you is traveling. It will also slow down and speed back up as needed. The lane-departure alert system will notify you when the vehicle begins to drift outside your designated lane, and the pre-collision system with pedestrian detection uses front-facing sensors to detect obstacles that are directly in your path. Blindspot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are both included as well.

In the event of an accident, 10 airbags are located throughout the cabin. These include the driver and front-seat passenger airbags along with side airbags, outboard second-row side airbags, all-row roll-sensing side curtain airbags, and front airbags to protect the knees. Safety Connect has also been included. This system will alert emergency services if you have an accident. It can also be used to get roadside assistance when needed and to locate the vehicle if it is stolen.

Slipping behind the wheel of a luxury SUV like the Toyota Land Cruiser is an experience of its own. If you are looking for a family-friendly vehicle that is dripping with elegance and sophistication, then this is the vehicle for you. Let’s explore some of the incredible features you’ll find inside the Land Cruiser and the Heritage Edition!

    Inside the Land Cruiser

The 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser offers a stately cabin that is covered in perforated leather. You can choose between sleek Black or elegant Terra. The driver’s seat is power adjustable 10 different ways with power lumbar support for long trips and memory settings for convenience. The seats are also both heated and cooled for comfort all year long. The second row is a 40/20/40 configuration that can be adjusted in multiple ways. These seats are also heated and come with a center armrest for comfort. The third row of seating is a 50/50 split-folding configuration. Covered in wood grain and leather, the power-adjustable tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel is also heated, and the shift lever is wrapped in leather as well. There are 12 cup and bottle holders throughout the cabin, as well as LED lighting.

Four-zone automatic climate control allows everyone to stay comfortable during the trip, and a rearview camera allows you to back out of tight parking spots carefully. The 360° surround-view parking camera system also aids in getting out of crowded parking spaces. A wireless charging pad can be found at the bottom of the center stack. This helps to prevent clutter inside the cabin. Other convenient technology includes full power accessories, keyless ignition/entry, and push-button start.

Displayed on a 9-inch touchscreen is the advanced infotainment interface. This system comes with voice recognition technology, Bluetooth, and smartphone integration. Hands-free calling and text messaging are standard, as well as streaming your favorite music and using your top apps. A navigation system is included as well as a premium JBL sound system with 14 speakers and an amplifier. You can also opt for a rear-seat DVD entertainment system.

    The Heritage Edition

If you are interested in the Heritage Edition, the first thing you should know is that it comes standard with five seats. However, it can be configured to hold eight like the normal Land Cruiser. Most of the features found on the Land Cruiser carry over to the Heritage Edition. Most of the differences are simply cosmetic. For example, the Heritage Edition comes with the Black Interior Package. This adds a black headliner with bronze stitching for a beautiful contrast. You will find this elegant stitching decorating the center stack, console, door panels, seats, and steering wheel.

  • Exterior

The 2021 Toyota Land cruiser wouldn’t be very special if it didn’t exude elegance from the outside as well. The sheer stature of this vehicle is enough to turn heads wherever you go. Let’s explore some of the key exterior styling elements on both versions of this new full-size SUV.

    Cruising in a Land Cruiser

Rolling on 18-inch split-spoke alloy wheels, the Land Cruiser makes a great first impression. Featuring LED headlights, taillights, and automatic high beams, you will have the luxury of enhanced visibility during the day, at night, and during inclement weather. LED fog lamps with chrome accents and daytime running lamps are also included. The distinctive grille is finished in chrome with dark silver inserts, and the side moldings are also done in chrome. The power-adjustable side mirrors come with integrated turn signal indicators, cameras, and a heating function.

The power liftgate allows you to load cargo quickly and easily, and the one-touch moonroof comes with a sunshade to help keep the cabin cool. Rain sensing wipers, rear privacy glass, and roof rails are also provided. Protective skid plates have been installed underneath the vehicle, and tow hooks have been mounted to the front and back. Finally, mudguards protect the vehicle from moisture.

As for the Heritage Edition, this model rolls on 18-inch bronze forged aluminum wheels. It also gets dark housing units surrounding the LED headlights and darkened chrome accents around the LED fog lamps. The chrome grille has been replaced with the Heritage grille. This features black inserts and darkened chrome accents. The same side mirrors carry over onto this model, but they are done in black. The roof rack has been removed as well as the chrome body side moldings.
